Bread Halwa

Deep fried bread in ghee and cooked in sugar syrup

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Ghee or Butter
  • ½ loaf Buttermilk bread or White Bread
  • 1 cup Granulated cane sugar
  • 1 cup Cashews
  • ½ cup Milk Kova Optional

Instructions
 

  • Toast 1 cup Cashews in 1/2 cup Ghee until golden brown.
  • Make thick sugar syrup using 1 cup water and 1 cup Granulated cane sugar at medium heat. Turn to low heat after thickening.
  • Remove the edges of the sliced ½ loaf Buttermilk bread or White Bread and cut each slice in the center to make four squares. Deep fry the bread slices at medium heat in 2 cups Ghee or Butter until golden brown.
  • Add the deep fried bread slices to the slow cooking syrup for 15 mins. Mix gently without breaking the bread and add toasted cashews. Add ½ cup Milk Kova to enhance the taste.
  • Cover the lid, let rest for 10 mins and serve warm with cold milk.
