Bread Halwa
Deep fried bread in ghee and cooked in sugar syrup
Ingredients
- 2 cups Ghee or Butter
- ½ loaf Buttermilk bread or White Bread
- 1 cup Granulated cane sugar
- 1 cup Cashews
- ½ cup Milk Kova Optional
Instructions
- Toast 1 cup Cashews in 1/2 cup Ghee until golden brown.
- Make thick sugar syrup using 1 cup water and 1 cup Granulated cane sugar at medium heat. Turn to low heat after thickening.
- Remove the edges of the sliced ½ loaf Buttermilk bread or White Bread and cut each slice in the center to make four squares. Deep fry the bread slices at medium heat in 2 cups Ghee or Butter until golden brown.
- Add the deep fried bread slices to the slow cooking syrup for 15 mins. Mix gently without breaking the bread and add toasted cashews. Add ½ cup Milk Kova to enhance the taste.
- Cover the lid, let rest for 10 mins and serve warm with cold milk.
